Alan Douglas Rutledge was born on December 10, 1927, in Utica, Nebraska to Walter and Vivian (Marr) Rutledge and passed away on April 20, 2022, in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 94 years, 4 months, and 10 days.
Alan grew up on the family farm near Utica. He graduated from Utica High School with the Class of 1945. Alan enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps after high school and returned to Utica to farm with his father after his military service. Alan married Audrey Furtwangler on April 16, 1949, in Seward. He retired from farming on August 17, 1990. The couple loved wintering in Texas where Alan enjoyed golfing and playing pool. Alan was a member of the Utica United Methodist Church, a 47-year member of the Utica American Legion Post #49, Utica Saddle Club, a bowling league, and a couple's golf league. Alan also enjoyed flying the three airplanes he owned over the years and reeling in a fish or two. He was a frugal, yet generous man who loved spending time with his family and friends.
Alan is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Audrey Rutledge; daughter, Rebecca Scheele; brother, Ross Rutledge; sister, Beth Nielsen; sister and brother-in-law, Jo and Jerry Winkleman; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Vi and John Kuhl, Louise and Everett Whitenack.
Survivors include his daughter, Kristi Rutledge and husband, Steve Rice, Omaha; grandchildren, Jay and wife, Danielle Scheele, Kirk and wife, Kristin Scheele, Kimberly and husband, Ian Heimes, Eric and wife, Abby Scheele, Nathan Rice and wife, Sook Young Jun, Spencer Rice and Robin Walker, Aubrianne Rice; 12 great-grandchildren: Saige, Paityn, Eastyn, Case Scheele, Emma, Samuel, Noah, Micah Scheele, Tyler, Hayes Heimes, Ryatt Scheele and Hannah Rice; sister-in-law, Artie Rutledge; dear friend, Roberta Mittan; nieces, nephews and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of a life shared with Alan.
