Alvina Elizabeth (Zwick) Piening was born October 28, 1918 near Staplehurst, Nebraska to Ferdinand and Clara (Schaefer) Zwick and passed away on September 13, 2006 in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 87 years, 10 months, 16 days. Alvina was baptized November 24, 1918 and was confirmed May 8, 1932 at Zion Lutheran Church (Marysville), where she also attended parochial school. On April 25, 1943, Alvina was united in marriage to Vernon Piening at her parents home. This marriage was blessed with four children-Myron, Ron, Stuart and Ila. Alvina was a farm wife and mother. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid in Pleasant Dale and she was a charter member and the first president of the Pleasant Dale Legion Post No. 354 Auxiliary. Preceding Alvina in death were her parents, Ferdinand and Clara Zwick; her brothers, Ferd, Elton and Melvin Zwick; her sister, Darleen Miller; and her son, Myron Piening. Alvina is survived by her husband, Vernon Piening of Pleasant Dale; her daughter and son-in-law, Ila and Dale Matthes of Pleasant Dale; sons and daughters-in-law, Ron and Marcia Piening of Pleasant Dale and Stuart and Vicki Piening of Lincoln; daughter-in-law, Becky Piening of Omaha; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Alvina. |
