Ann Marie Vrbsky was born February 1, 1909 near Dwight, NE to Anton and Anna (Shalon) Policky. She attended Rocky Corner School in rural Butler County. During her later teens, she stayed home to help out on the farm. In her twenties she moved to Omaha and worked as a nanny for the Swensen Family, who ran the Prague Hotel. She took care of Inga Swensen, their daughter, who later went on to be a movie star, and starred in the TV series Benson. At the 1938 New Years Eve Dance at Sokol Hall in Omaha, Ann met Jim Vrbsky. They were married the following June 6, 1939 at Dwight Assumption Catholic Church. They made their first home in Crete, NE where Jim was a partner in the John Deere Implement Business. In the early 1940s they moved to a farm near Dwight. In 1949, they moved near Bee where they farmed until their retirement in 1965. They then moved to Bee, where Jim and Ann were custodians of the Bee Pubic School until 1979. In June 1979, they celebrated their 40th Wedding Anniversary with an open house and family gathering. Jim passed away that same year on October 4th. Ann continued to live in Bee until February 2002, and then stayed with her daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Don, after suffering a mild heart attack. Her intention was always to go back to her home in Bee, but later that year, she was diagnosed with non-hodgins lymphoma. Her fight with this cancer kept her in Lincoln until her death on April 20, 2006 at the age of 97 years, 2 months, 19 days. Anns strong will and positive outlook on life allowed her to continue to have a happy and good quality of life. She truly enjoyed her grandchildren and her great-grandsons. She loved gardening, flowers, crocheting, quilting, baking pies and led a very busy life. Her family would sometimes refer to her as the energizer bunny. Even after being diagnosed with cancer, her lifestyle did not change. Ann was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Bee. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Donald Jisa, Lincoln; grandchildren and spouses, Debra and Bradley Thompson, Madison, WI, Bradley and Cindie Jisa and Deanne and Chad McClatchey, all Lincoln; four great-grandsons, Evan and Jaden Thompson, Austin Jisa and Max McClatchey; sisters and brother-in-law, Julie Eichner, Omaha, Marie and Louis Kotera, Seward, sisters-in-law, Lucille Policky, Violet Policky, Agnes Policky, all of Omaha, Helen Cerny, David City, Helen Vrbsky, Farragut, IA, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, James C.; an infant son, Donald James; parents, Anton and Anna Policky; sister, Clodie Slavik; brothers, Charles, Anton, James and Leo Policky. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Ann. |
