Ardene Gailord Henning was born July 14, 1931 in York, Nebraska to Edwin and Bertha (Jeske) Henning and passed away in Norfolk, Nebraska on August 29, 2007, at the age of 76 years, 1 month, 15 days. Ardene was baptized on August 13, 1931 and confirmed on May 20, 1945, both at First Lutheran Church in York and was a 1948 graduate of York High School. Ardene was a veteran of the Korean War entering into active service on March 31, 1952 and serving in the Infantry Division. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the United Nations Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal with three bronze service stars and the National Defense Service Medal. After his active service ended he transferred to the Army Reserves to complete his eight years of service under the Universal Military Training and Service Act. Ardene graduated from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln in January of 1962 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was united in marriage to Odevern Henning on July 20, 1965 at the First Baptist Church in Canyon, Texas and moved to McCool Junction, Nebraska. In 1968, they purchased their farm northeast of Seward and Ardene was the owner and president of two family corporations, Easy Chemical and Manufacturing Company, Inc. and Land, Water and Livestock, Inc. Ardene and Odevern also enjoyed raising and selling produce at the Haymarket Farmer's Market in Lincoln for 13 years. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 19 in York. Ardene was preceded in death by his wife, Odevern in 2001 and his parents, Edwin and Bertha Henning. Ardene is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Mark R. Henning of Wayne, Scott C. and Brenda Henning of Lincoln; his two grandchildren, Sebastian L. and Logan M. Henning; his brother, Eugene Henning of McCool Junction; his sister and brother-in-law, Marilue and Gaylord Becker of Lincoln and a host of friends.
