Obituary
Barbara attended and graduated from Friend High School in 1936. She then attended Nurses Training at St. Catherine's Hospital in Omaha for 3 years, graduating in 1940. She worked at Union Pacific Railroad as a Nurse Stewardess for a year. She when went to California where she enlisted into the U.S. Army in the Army Nurse Corp. on April 19, 1943. She served overseas for 16 months with the 203rd General and the 194th General Hospitals in France and Belgium. She was the charge nurse of surgical ward at Santa Ana Air Base and also at Dibble General Hospital in California for six months. Barbara was honorably discharged on April 18, 1946. Upon her discharge she worked at St. Vincent's and St. John's Hospitals in Santa Monica, CA; and also some private duty nursing. She also worked for the California Nurses Association. She moved back to Nebraska in 1978 with her mother. Barbara worked in Omaha at Maplecrest Care Center until her retirement in 1984. She then moved to Lincoln where she was a member of St. Teresa's Catholic Church. She was also a member of Harris-Fraley V.F.W. Post #131.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Aloys L. Gier in 1951, brother and sister-in-law Jerome M. and Evelyn Gier and a nephew, Aloys Gier.
Survivors include nephews John Gier, William Richard Gier; Nieces Geraldine Margaret Snoza, Mary Elizabeth Cos, Ann Michelle Shepard, and Kathy Miller; cousins, Eugene & Evelyn Fougeron of Pleasant Dale, NE; Barbara Cleary of Kansas City, MO; and special friend, Debi Hubbard of Lincoln, NE.
