Berdine Marie (Mueller) Kruse was born April 18, 1927 near Staplehurst, Nebraska the daughter of Herbert C. and Amanda L. (Fritz) Mueller. Berdine passed away on May 5, 2009 in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 82 years, and 17 days. Berdine was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Staplehurst on May 15, 1927; she was confirmed on April 6, 1941 at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward. She was a 1945 graduate of Seward High School. On April 20, 1945, Berdine was united in marriage to William Carl Kruse at Marysville, Kansas and their marriage was blessed with three sons, Jon William, Steven Carl and Thomas Lynn. The family was engaged in farming in Seward County all their married life, retiring in 1993 and moving into Seward.
Berdine was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, LWML, past president of Ladies Aid and a member of the St. John Anniversary Centennial Committee and Building Committee. She was past president of the B Square Extension Club and State President of Home Extension Clubs and was a 4-H leader for many years. She served as President of the GFWC Seward Women's Club and served as Club and District IV Historian and State Publicity Chairman. She was a member of the Seward Country Club and the Seward Women's Bowling Association.
Berdine was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert C. and Amanda L. Mueller; her husband William C. "Bill" Kruse in 1995; a grandchild, Ryan James Kruse; brother, Vernon Mueller; sister-in-law, Delores Mueller; brother-in-law, Milton Kruse.
Berdine is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Jon William and Bonnie Kruse, Dr. Steven Carl and Mary Kruse, Thomas Lynn and Jackie Kruse, all of Seward; 8 grandchildren, Jennifer and Joseph Quirk, Matthew and Eva Kruse, Jill Kruse, Robert Kruse, Bryan Kruse, Trent Kruse and fianc Jessie Doak, Erin and Craig Stoll, Shawn and Heather Williams; 12 great-grandchildren, Mariel and William Quirk, Matthew (Matushko) Kruse, Chloe Kruse, Dustin and Sierra Kruse, Livya Stoll, Paige, Skye and Rayna Butterfield, Sophia Williams, Drew Doak; her brother, Gerald Mueller of Seward; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Kruse and Georgia Mueller, both of Seward; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Berdine.
