Bernard Charles Kobza was born July 4, 1931 in Ulysses, Nebraska the son of Joseph J. and Adella A. (Divis) Kobza and passed away in Seward, Nebraska on November 20, 2016 at the age of 85 years, 4 months, 16 days. Bernard attended Staplehurst High School and was a 1949 graduate of Ulysses High School. He enlisted in the National Guard and later served in the U.S. Air Force. On August 20, 1952, Bernard was united in marriage to Dorothy A. Divis at St. Mary's Catholic Church in David City. Their marriage was blessed with three children. Bernard was employed with Standard Oil Company in Valparaiso, for Loup Engineering in Columbus and Hughes Brothers in Seward. Beginning in 1960, Bernard began a career with the Civil Service, retiring in 1989. Following retirement he worked for Neuman Equipment, retiring in March of 2000 and then moving to Seward in June of 2000. Bernard and Dorothy belonged to several Catholic Parishes through the years: Ulysses, Valparaiso, Friend, Gretna and currently they are members of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Seward. Bernard was formerly a member and officer of the Men's Club in Ulysses and was also active in the Ulysses Fire Department. Bernard was a member of Catholic Workman and was a life member of Valparaiso American Legion Post #371.
Bernard is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Joseph Kobza in 2016; niece, Lynne Kobza Wilke; great niece and great nephew, Ava and Noah Bungey and great-nephew, Kenton Kobza.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Kobza, Seward; children and spouses, Janice and Gregg Schnack of Gretna, Judith and Dave Walahoski of Verona, WI and Bernard J. "Bud" and Vickey Kobza of Papillion; six grandchildren, Andrew Schnack, Kelly Ann Wurth, Jacob Walahoski, Jared Walahoski, Marsha Hardesty and Denise Peters; seven great-grandchildren, Shelby Hardesty, Kaitlyn Hardesty, Ciara Peters, Caslyn Peters, Colton Peters, Harper Schnack and Hayden Wurth and one great-great grandson, Carson Brown; brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Jane Kobza of Columbus; sisters and brother-in-law, Mary Ellen and Arthur Dobesh of Seward; sister-in-law, Rita Kobza of Lampe, MO; nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
