Bessie Dvorak was born on January 27, 1921, near Valparaiso, Nebraska to Jan and Mary (Zmek) Bohac and passed away on June 22, 2021, in David City, Nebraska at the age of 100 years, 4 months and 26 days.
Bessie grew up near Valparaiso where she attended school. On June 25, 1940, she was united in marriage to Mike Dvorak in Touhy, Nebraska. The couple farmed in Butler and Saunders counties until 1959, when they moved south of Staplehurst to farm. Mike and Bessie later moved to Seward where they worked at Hughes Brothers, Inc. and helped clean Dr. Pitsch's medical office. Bessie also babysat for several different families in the Seward area. The couple moved back to Valparaiso after their retirement.
Bessie enjoyed dancing and singing in the family band, cooking, especially her chicken noodle soup, baking kolaches and rosettes, gardening, canning her vegetables, quilting and embroidering. She also liked playing pitch and bingo. Bessie was a former member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Seward. Bessie was a member of Sts. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church, Valparaiso and the Valparaiso American Legion Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mike; son, Ivan; sons-in-law, Marvin Strizek and Dale Kliment; 14 siblings.
Survivors cherishing her memory include her children, Larry and wife, Kathy Dvorak, Pleasant Dale, Delores Strizek, Valparaiso, Beverly Kliment, Valparaiso; daughter-in-law, Louise Dvorak, Seward; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Rose Bohac, Mae Pernicek and Oley Dvorak; several nieces, nephews and cousins. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of a life shared with Bessie.
