Betty Lou (Brackhan) Downing was born April 24, 1940 in York, Nebraska to Otto Henry and Erna Sophie Louise (Rucksdaeschel) Brackhan and passed away in Seward, Nebraska on February 18, 2011 at the age of 70 years, 9 months, 24 days. Betty attended Immanuel Church School north of Utica and was a 1958 graduate of Utica High School. On April 28, 1962, Betty was united in marriage to George L. Downing and their marriage was blessed with five children, Rick, Anita, Brenda, Linda and Joann. Betty and George lived all of their married life around Seward. Betty was a member of the Seward United Methodist Church and she was a life member of Seward VFW Post No. 4755 Auxiliary. Betty enjoyed quilting, sewing, cross stitch, genealogy and entertaining their grandchildren. Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Erna Brackhan and an infant brother. Betty is survived by her husband of 48 years, George L. Downing of Seward; her children and spouses, Rick Downing of Lincoln, Anita and Neil Hueftle of Cozad, Brenda and Jerry Farber of Ashland, Linda and Garrett Mann of Burwell, Joann King of Seward; friend of the family, Chadwick King of Tamora; 13 grandchildren, Hanna and Benjamin Downing; Anson, Aaron and Isaac Hueftle; Tristin, Kayla and Joshua Farber; Blake, Carter, Avery and Laurel Mann; Alexander King. Additional survivors include sisters-in-law, Ruth Downing of Seward and Shirley Downing of Lincoln; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Roena Downing of Fort Collins, CO; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers, and memories of life shared with Betty. |
