Betty Lou (Kilker) Gravel was born June 3, 1930 in Le Mars, Iowa to Elmer and Mary (Price) Kilker and passed away in Seward, Nebraska on Saturday, January 12, 2008 at the age of 77 years, 7 months, 9 days. Betty grew up in Ulysses, Nebraska graduating from Ulysses High School in 1948. She married Victor J. Gravel on August 29, 1948 and they raised one daughter, Vikki. During their nearly 60 years of marriage they lived in David City, Ulysses and ultimately made their home in Seward for the last 50 years. Betty was a member of the United Methodist Church in Seward. She was an accomplished pianist and organist, teaching private piano lessons for many years and serving as a church organist for much of her life. Betty and her husband entertained in the surrounding area for over 30 years with their small dance band. When Betty and her family moved to Seward, her professional career included bookkeeping at the Anna Sundermann Home and Seward Building and Loan. She retired from Concordia University, Nebraska in 1989 after serving as an administrative secretary for over 21 years. Betty is survived by her husband, Victor J. Gravel; one daughter and son-in-law, Vikki and Doug Kotil, Seward; and grandson, Jared Kotil, Overland Park, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Mary Kilker, brother, Clifford Kilker; and sister, Mary Ellen (Kilker) Brinkman.
