Elizabeth Dorothy Betty Smith was born October 16, 1907 on a farm six miles north of Monroe, Nebraska to Michael and Catherine Marie (Abalone) Nansel and passed away in Seward, Nebraska on November 10, 2006 at the age of 99 years, 25 days. Betty was the seventh child in her family and enjoyed growing up on the family farm. She attended the Okay School District No. 32. Betty was united in marriage to Harold A. Smith on February 12, 1930 in Monroe, Nebraska. To this union two children were born, Alvin and Ruth Kay. Betty was a busy farm wife and mother through the years and was active in the Okay Church and later the Monroe United Methodist Church. Harold passed away in 1979 and Betty remained on the family farm appreciating her lifetime friends and neighbors. In 1996, Betty moved to Seward where she made her home at Heartland Park and made many new friends and participated in the activities. She enjoyed playing the piano, playing cards, crocheting, baking and sewing and letter writing.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Harold A. Smith; parents, Michael and Catherine (Abalone) Nansel; sisters, Gertrude Nansel and Edith Hughes; brothers, Vernon, Ora, Harry, Carl and Floyd Nansel.

She is survived by her son, Rev. Alvin Smith, Seward; her daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Kay and Paul Hickman, Silver Creek; grandchildren, Becky and Jim Ellsworth, Bryce Hickman, Joleen and Randy Widman, Bethanne & Tim Topolski, Paula and David Juza, Jon & Donna Smith, Amy and Lonnie Clark; great-grandchildren, Joseph Felstow, Ben Juza, Andy Juza, Zoie Juza, Garrett Smith, David Smith, Suzie Smith; nieces and nephews; Eileen Smith; other relatives and a host of friends.
