Blenda Louise (Brigham) Berndt was born January 8, 1907 at the family home near Tamora, Nebraska to Byron Dean and Ruth Amy (Kinnamon) Brigham and passed away on January 13, 2007 in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 100 years, 5 days. Blenda was the eldest of nine children in her family, she attended school in Tamora and her last 2 years of high school in Goehner where she graduated. She attended Hastings College for 2 years where she studied to be a teacher. She taught at several schools including Tamora and Rosemond, which was north and east of Tamora in Seward County. On August 7, 1930, Blenda was united in marriage to Glen Albert Berndt at York, Nebraska. The couple farmed in the Tamora area. They moved to Utica in 1957 and then to Seward in 1979. Blenda was active in O.E.S. Chapter No. 199 in Utica and the Goehner Grange. She was a member of the Seward United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. Blenda and Glen were supporters of the Seward Public Library, the Goehner Melodrama and Boy Scouts of America. Blenda was preceded in death by her husband, Glen A. Berndt in 2001; her nephew, Bruce Hess, who was raised by the Berndts and whom they considered a son; her siblings, Dean Brigham, Beth Welch, Donald Brigham, Bonita Brigham, Isabel Hess and John Brigham. Blenda is survived by her grandson, Eric Hess of Lincoln, her brother and sister-in-law, Byron and Geraldine Brigham, Jr. of Seward; sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Rex Tyrrell of Cartesville, GA, sister-in-law, Fern Brigham of Seward; many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
