Bruce Otto Schroeder was born on November 24, 1930, in York, Nebraska to F.W. Otto and Anna Wilamina (Tempel) Schroeder and passed away on November 25, 2016, in Seward at the age of 86 years and 1 day.
Bruce moved with his parents to Seward at the age of five. He attended Seward schools, graduating with the class of 1948. After high school, he farmed with his dad until he was drafted into the United States Army on September 17, 1951. Bruce served two years of active duty in Korea and six years in the reserves. He was then honorably discharged on September 16, 1959. Bruce was united in marriage to Kay E. Yerk on August 4, 1956, at the Seward United Methodist Church. Bruce and Kay continued to farm until they retired in 2001. Bruce was a 60 year member of the Seward United Methodist Church, 50 year member of both the Seward V.FW. Post #4755 and the Beaver Crossing American Legion Post #178 and he was active in the honor guard. He loved raising Shorthorn cattle and was a member of the Shorthorn Association. He served as a 4-H leader and bowled in Seward for many years.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Kay of Seward; three daughters, Alicia (Jim) Sevcik of Omaha, Patricia (Mark Leydig) Schroeder of Council Grove, KS and Susan (Todd) Riley of Seward. Six grandchildren, Jimmy (Natalie) Sevcik, Andy (Chelsey) Sevcik, Allison Sevcik, Layton Leydig, Matyson Leydig and Kyle Riley; sister, Janice Imig of Boulder, CO; two sisters-in-law, Carole Briggs of Seward and Becky (Craig) Colburn of Lakewood, N.Y. numerous nieces and nephews.
