Burdette Gale Reiling was born January 4, 1931 in Staplehurst, Nebraska to John William and Lillian Emelia (Winters) Reiling and passed away on January 14, 2006 at the age of 75 years, 10 days. Buff was baptized January 25, 1931 and confirmed on April 12, 1944, both at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Staplehurst. He attended Marysville Country School and was a 1948 graduate of Seward High School. Following his graduation he worked for the ASC and then enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War. After his military service, Buff returned to employment with ASC and also farmed northwest of Staplehurst. Later he was hired with the State of Nebraska as District Director for ASC. Buff was a longtime player for town team baseball in Staplehurst, Utica, Osceola, Stromsburg and York and was also the manager for the Staplehurst Town Team. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Staplehurst and a member of VFW Post No. 4755 in Seward. Buff was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lillian Reiling; his brother and sisters-in-law, Duane and Mary Reiling and Beverly Reiling. Buff is survived by his daughter, Kerry McManigal and fianc, Vince Kingston, Lincoln, daughter, Kacy Gill, Lincoln, grandchildren, Jamie McManigal, Erin McManigal and Joshua Gill, all of Lincoln; brother, Maynard Reiling, Denver; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jackie and Harlow Ruck, Westminster, CO, Carol and Charlie W. Hastings, Tucson, AZ; mother of their children, Ruth Reiling, Seward; nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Buff. |
