Obituary

Carl William Schluckebier was born November 18, 1921 near Tamora, Nebraska and passed away on August 8, 2017 in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 95 years, 8 months, 21 days. Carl was baptized January 29, 1922 and confirmed April 5, 1936, both at Friedens Evangelical Church in Goehner. He was a 1940 graduate of Tamora High School. Carl served in the U. S. Navy during World War II, from August 31, 1942 through January 21, 1946 in the Asiatic theater of the Pacific. He was awarded the American Area Ribbon, World War II Victory Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Area Ribbon 2-stars (Iwo Jima and Okinawa), Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon. Carl was with the military group that took in occupational forces and were present on V-J day. Following his military service, Carl returned to Seward County to engage in farming. On August 3, 1947, he was united in marriage to Vivian Ann (Westerhoff) Gausman at the Westerhoff home near Garland. Carl was a longtime member of Friedens United Church of Christ in Goehner and also attended Friedens United Church of Christ in Seward. He was a life member of Seward VFW Post No. 4755 and served on the Co-op Elevator Board at Staplehurst.

Carl is survived by his wife of 70 years, Vivian of Seward; children and spouses, Annette (Gausman) and Howard Rasmussen of Tallahassee, FL, Peggy and Don Fitzpatrick of Papillion, Bill and Carolyn Schluckebier of Brownwood, TX, Dan and Cindy Schluckebier of Aldie, VA, Fred and Shelley Schluckebier of Seward; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Helen Schluckebier of Lincoln and Corky Schluckebier of Utica; nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Carl is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ralph and George; daughter, Connie Wustrack; grandson-in-law, Scott Dey; daughter-in-law, Didi Schluckebier.
