Charles Edward Hoger was born on January 22, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois to Theodore and Inez (Schwendt) Hoger and passed away on December 6, 2022, in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 91 years, 10 months and 14 days.

Chuck was baptized and confirmed at Timothy Lutheran Church in Chicago. He was united in marriage on June 22, 1952, to Anita Schieman and remained joined to the love of his life for the next 70 years . This union produced three sons; David, Stephen and Tim. Chuck received his Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1952 from Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, Illinois. He went on to receive his Master of Arts in Education degree from Washington University in St. Louis in 1956. Chuck received his Master of Arts degree in zoology in 1964 from Washington University in St. Louis and obtained his Doctor of Philosophy degree in zoology in 1976 from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.

Chuck's lifelong career in secondary education extended from St. Louis, Missouri, Sarasota, Florida, and Seward, Nebraska until his retirement from Lutheran High School in Orange, California where he taught biology. Chuck was known for his extensive interest in lizards, which were the topic of his PhD. Chuck also enjoyed travelling, making many journeys across the world. He finally retired from officiating numerous sporting events when he was in his mid-80's. Chuck was an active member at St. John's Lutheran Church in Orange, California.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anita Hoger; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Lois Hoger.

Survivors cherishing his memory include his children, David Hoger, Stephen and wife, Karen Hoger, Tim and wife, Kristina Hoger; grandchildren, Mark and wife, Emily Hoger, Amy and husband, Aaron Podschun, Margaret Lawson, Matt and wife, Isabel Hoger; 7 great-grandchildren.
