Claus Martens was born November 12, 1929 near Ulysses, Nebraska to Claus William and Ida Evelyn (Swan) Martens and passed away on November 5, 2008 in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 78 years, 11 months, 23 days. Claus was a 1947 graduate of Ulyyses High School. Claus went into active duty on April 24, 1951 at Banger, Maine with the Air National Guard. On February 3, 1953, Claus was united in marriage to Joann Peterson at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Betty and Linda. Claus worked at Campbell Seed House and then was a 35 year associate with Wood Brothers Funeral Home in Seward. Claus was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Seward; he was a 50-year member of the Seward Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad and a member of American Legion Post #33 Seward. Claus was preceded in death by his parents, Claus W. and Ida Evelyn Martens. Claus is survived by his wife, Joann Martens of Seward; his daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Rob Skolnick and Linda and Lyle Kadavy, all of Lincoln; five grandchildren, Cassie Skolnick, Nicole Skolnick, Laura Kadavy, Staci Kadavy, Christopher Kadavy; great-granddaughter, Mikalah Kadavy; brothers-in-law and spouses, Don and Virginia Peterson, Lincoln, Larry and Karen Peterson, Seward, Richard and Barb Peterson, DeWitt; sister-in-law and spouse, Carolyn and Chris Browne, Iowa; and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers, and memories of life shared with Claus. |
