Connie Marie (LaVelle) Holsteen was born December 16, 1949 in York, Nebraska to William Albert and Darlene Marie (Light) LaVelle and passed away surrounded by family and friends at their home in Parsons, Kansas on August 12, 2008 at the age of 58 years, 7 months, 27 days. Connie was baptized and confirmed at Swede Plain Church in Polk, Nebraska and was a 1968 graduate of Polk High School where she was active in music, cheerleading, drama and sports. After high school graduation, Connie attended Reece and Sybil Beauty College in Lincoln and was employed as a telephone operator with Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph. On September 21, 1969, Connie was united in marriage to Ronald D. Holsteen at the United Methodist Church in Polk, and they made their first home in Lincoln. Connie and Ron opened their home to Connie's brothers, Bobby and Todd when their parents died at an early age, and the family was blessed with the addition of their children, Shana and Chad. In Lincoln, Connie was active in the United Methodist Church and Christian Women's Club. The family relocated to Seward, Nebraska in 1977. While in Seward, Connie shared her gifts with the United Methodist Church, Seward Jr. Women's Club, Seward 4th of July Committee and Temruog Gourmet Club and was employed with Hans Home Furnishings as a designer and a receptionist at Cattle National Bank. In 1987, the family moved to Pierre, South Dakota, and Connie became involved with their church, various bridge groups and the Pierre Players where she performed as Golda in Fiddler on the Roof and was in My Fair Lady. She was employed as a designer with Klocker Furniture. Connie and Ron moved to Lincoln and then to Parsons, Kansas in 2004. In Parsons, Connie made her impact through the Wesley United Methodist Church, bridge groups, P.E.O. Chapter BS, and a foundation board member of Labette Community College and the Parade of Homes. Connie was an avid Nebraska Football Fan, active with her children's and grandchildren's sporting and music activities and a true, devoted, loyal friend to all whom she touched with her kindness, smile and genuine caring personality. Connie was preceded in death by her parents, William and Darlene LaVelle; her brother, Bobby LaVelle and her parents-in-law, Gene and Donna Holsteen. Connie is survived by her husband, Ron Holsteen of Parsons; her children, Todd and Mindy LaVelle of Seward, NE and their children, Patrick, Whitney and Broc; Shana Holsteen of Topeka, KS; Chad and Marcie Holsteen of Manhattan, KS and their sons, Jordan, Mason and Ty .
