Obituary

Donald Norman Andrews was born June 14, 1952 in McCook, Nebraska, the son of Donald Howard and Lucetta Elaine (McCoy) Andrews and passed away at his home near Dwight, Nebraska on March 7, 2013 at the age of 60 years, 8 months, 21 days. Norm attended elementary and high school in Holbrook, Nebraska, graduating in 1970. He then attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he was a member of FarmHouse Fraternity; graduating from UNL in 1974. On December 29, 1973, Norm was united in marriage to Bonnie Joy Stara at St. Francis Catholic Church, David City, Nebraska. Their marriage was blessed with three children-Dan, Lisa and James (J.R.) Norm attended graduate school at Purdue University for one year and then they lived in Plains, Kansas until returning to Nebraska in 1978. Norm was actively engaged in farming and raising cattle in Butler County. He was a member of Dwight Assumption Catholic Church and had served as a trustee. Norm was past president and board member of the Butler County Farm Bureau and served as state parliamentarian for Nebraska Farm Bureau for many years. He was involved in numerous community activities and organizations including being a 4-H leader and past United Farmers Coop director. Other involvements were serving as course director for Stock Dog Trials at the Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island, the Nebraska Beekeepers Association and a former member of the Butler County Fair Board. Norm was actively involved with his family and experienced great joy in spending time with all of them. He especially enjoyed the outdoors and nature with his eleven grandchildren. Norm was proud to be a 5th generation cattleman in Nebraska and was a well known breeder of Australian Shepherd stock dogs. Norm is preceded in death by his father, Donald Andrews; his grandparents; and his mother-in-law, Norma Stara. Survivors who will cherish Norm's memory include his wife, Bonnie Andrews, Dwight; children and spouses, Dan and Michelle Andrews, Ames, IA; Lisa and Galen Lyons, Dwight, J.R. and Jenny Andrews, Austin, TX; 11 grandchildren, Elizabeth, David, Olivia, Molly, Violet and Jake Andrews, Abby, Andy, Alex, Ben, Emy Lyons; mother, Lucetta Andrews, Arapahoe; siblings and spouses, Nancy and Keith Rexroth, Sidney, Dennis and Beth Andrews, Hampton, Matt and Barb Andrews, Elwood, Tom Andrews, Holbrook; father-in-law, Albin Stara, David City; brother-in-law and spouse, Jim and Donna Stara, David City; sisters-in-law and spouses, Grayce and Vic Lechtenberg, West Lafayette, IN, Aloha and Tom Schmid, Waco, and other extended family and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers, and memories of life shared with Norm. In his final journey Norm tried to show his family and friends how a life is lived ~ not how a life ends. His friendships were a special treasure and joy to him.
