David Adrian Nicolaus was born on July 8, 1944, the son of Paul E. and Inez M. (Schark) Nicolaus and passed away March 4, 2022, at the age of 77 years, 7 months and 24 days.

The family lived west of Staplehurst then moved to the farm where Dave spent nearly all of his life, one mile east of Goehner.

He was baptized at home on July 24, 1944, and confirmed at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Goehner on May 18, 1958. He attended District 58-Star School through grade 8. He graduated from Seward High School in 1962 and was in the National Guard for three years. He graduated from the Northwest Technical Institute in Albuquerque, N.M. in 1968.

Dave married Pat Niermeier on July 31, 1966. To this union three daughters were born. The couple lived in Albuquerque, N.M. and Elmhurst, Ill. before returning to the farm in the early 1970s.

He was a member of the Goehner Volunteer Fire Dept., Seward County Firefighter Mutual Aid, an elder at Holy Cross, and a Mound Prairie Cemetery Board Member.

He was blessed in that he was able to do what he loved: farm, raise livestock, love his family, and enjoy his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Pat; his daughters, Ruth, Goehner, Rachel (Wayne) Vossler, Exeter, and Carol (Jared) Eakins, Paxton; grandchildren, Trenton, Joni, and Joel Vossler; Adrian, Joshua and Joe Eakins; his brother, Buck (Myra) Nicolaus, Utica; brothers-in-law and wives, Rudy and Wilma Niermeier, Niles and Jayne Niermeier; nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
