David Anthony "Pete" Horacek was born on June 22, 1950, in Fremont, NE; to Ladislav A. and Martha Bernice (Horn) Horacek and passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 5, 2017, in Seward at the age of 66 years, 8 months and 11 days. Pete grew up in the Omaha area graduating from Benson High School with the class of 1968. He went on to attend the University of Nebraska.
On August 31, 1980, Pete was united in marriage to Mary Sumpter in Kansas City, MO. The couple made their home in Denver where they owned Interstate Battery franchise. In Pete's spare time he enjoyed gardening, camping and occasional travel. Pete and Mary most recently moved to Seward to be closer to family and friends.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Martha Horacek, two brothers; Jerry and Chuck Horacek, sister-in-law; Ginger Horacek, brother-in-law; Matt Sumpter.
Survivors include his wife Mary, four children; Heather McEntarffer of Phoenix, AZ; Kimberly Orwen and husband Chad of Seward, Jake Horacek of Denver, CO; and Sam Horacek of Leawood, KS; five granddaughters; Jessica, Emma and Grace Orwen, Hannah and Megan McEntarffer.
Private graveside services will be held at a later date at the Bohemian National Cemetery in Brainard, NE. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
