Obituary

David Joseph Tuma was born on October 6, 1924, in Cotesfield, NE to John William and Blanche Marie (Naprstek) Tuma and passed away on November 3, 2016 in St. Paul, NE at the age of 92. He grew up and attended country school and graduated from Scotia High School in 1943.

On April 21, 1944, David married Betty Ann Holt in Omaha. He then enlisted into the U.S. Army. After his discharge, he returned to Lincoln, where he attended UNL as an Art major. In 1947 the family moved to Seward where Dave worked for Rex Briggs at Briggs feedlot. He later worked as a carpenter with Charlie Kemper. Dave went on to start his own business as a cabinet maker and later became a construction contractor. Dave Tuma Construction was created, where he built homes and Behlen buildings. David hired many high school and college students and teachers to help him in the summer months.

David was a member of the St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Seward, and a former member of St. David's Episcopal Church in Lincoln; he was active as a Mason with Oliver Lodge #38 A.F. & A.M. He served on the Seward Hospital Board and School Board. He was a lifetime member of the Seward V.F.W. Post #4755, and the St. Paul American Legion Post #119. David also served on the State PTA Board. Dave did a lot of volunteering in the Seward area.

He was an avid hunter; he enjoyed fishing and golfing and was also an artist and master wood carver. He loved music and played the baritone. He was also a fantastic dancer and loved Polka music. David also enjoyed crossword puzzles and Sudoku.

David is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Betty Ann (1987), two brothers, Leonard and Jerome, one grandson, Jim Zitek, and one great grandson.

Survivors include his six children; Kathleen Paul and husband Bob of Hot Springs, SD; Barbara Goulet and husband James of Schuyler, NE; Susan Hraban and husband Kenneth of Lincoln, NE; Jennifer Suhr and husband Gordon of Valentine, NE; David Tuma and wife Lorena of Phoenix, AZ and Allison Zitek and husband Gary of Ulysses, NE, special friend, Mary Lou Christensen, of St. Paul, NE, one brother Donald Tuma of Lexington, NE; one sister-in-law Lucille Tuma of Columbus, NE; twelve grandchildren and seventeen great- grandchildren.
