IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Debra M.
Varga
November 8, 1955 – July 29, 2024
Debra Marie (Butcher) Varga, age 68, was born on November 8, 1955, in Sidney, Nebraska to Sanford and Mildred Butcher and passed away on July 29, 2024. Deb grew up in Sidney, graduating high school in 1974. She attended Lincoln School of Commerce from 1975-1977.
Deb was a member of Southview Baptist Church since August of 1976. She loved children and was involved for almost 50 years in the children's area as a teacher and director. Her faith in God was seen clearly in her dedication to serving where she could share the gospel of God's love. Her service at Southview included starting and coordinating Operation Christmas Child; working with AWANA since its inception, approximately 28 years; kindergarten teacher; elementary coordinator; and children's department director. She married Bob Varga in 1984, in Lincoln, Nebraska where they lived and raised their family.
Deb was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her, but never forgotten. She was a Christ-follower, and her life was one of service, especially to her family and church, leaving an example of service and thoughtfulness that her family strives to follow. She had a friendly, even-tempered personality that made her an asset to any group. Her presence always lit up the room. Deb had many interests and hobbies. She collected Precious Moments, Cherished Teddy, and Longaberger baskets, but her love for her family and the children at church were always her highest priorities. Deb worked at Eileen's Cookies, YMCA Childcare, and was executive secretary at RSROA.
She is survived by her husband, Bob Varga; mother, Mildred Butcher; children, Charlie Varga (Judith) Offenbach, Germany, Derek Varga, Lincoln, Nick Varga (Nessa), Lincoln, Bill Varga (Elizabeth), Liberty, Missouri, Bobby Varga III, (Kimberly), Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Noah (Ryan) Varga, Fort Liberty, NC; Tristen Varga, Lincoln; Rogan Deal (Varga), Liberty, MO; Sophia Varga, Offenbach, Germany; Lilli Lund (Varga), Lincoln; brother, Jerry Butcher, Cheyenne, WY; nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
The family requests memorials in lieu of flowers to Southview Baptist Church, 3434 S. 13th St., for Operation Christmas Child and Missions.
