Obituary

Delmar Lloyd Borchers was born March 16, 1931 in Lincoln, NE to Abbo Fred and Mary Alvina (Harms) Borchers and passed away on March 4, 2018 in Seward, NE at the age of 86 years, 11 months, and 16 days. Delmar was baptized April 5, 1931 at St. John Lutheran Church at Emerald and confirmed March 25, 1945 at Zion Lutheran Church at Emerald. He attended District #38 school near Emerald, graduating from Pleasant Dale High School in 1948. Delmar farmed near Emerald until December of 1951 when he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. On July 16, 1952 he was united in marriage to Ruth Arlene Owens at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church near Emerald. During Delmar's time in the Air Force, from 1951 through 1955, Delmar and Ruth made their home in Bryan, Texas. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Bruce and Brett. Beginning in March of 1959 they began farming in the Utica area until moving to Seward in 2012.

Delmar was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Utica and Lutheran Layman's League. He was involved in Utica baseball, youth and American Legion programs. Delmar served as a member of the Centennial Board of Education, was a Seward County Commissioner, on the Lincoln Area Agency on Aging, Seward County Area on Aging, Blue Valley Community Action and was a board member of the Foundation for Memorial Health Care Systems. He was a 59-year member of American Legion Post #49 and was a former Commander.

Survivors cherishing Delmar's memory include his wife, Ruth, Seward; sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Donna Borchers, Lincoln, Brett and Connie Borchers, Utica; five grandsons and their spouses: Brandon and Holly Borchers, Utica, Brooks and Rachel Borchers, St. Paul, MN, Bryant and Sarah Borchers, Kansas City, MO, Bryce and Jessica Borchers, Utica, Justin and Kati Borchers, Utica; six great-grandchildren: Barrett Borchers, Nixon Borchers, Stella Borchers, Everly Borchers, Becket Borchers, Ezra Borchers; sister, Velda Schmidt, Lincoln; brother, Landis Borchers, Lincoln; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Rex and Wanda Owens, Seward, Kenneth and Sharon Owens, Utica; many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Delmar in death were his parents, Abbo and Mary Borchers; an infant sister; grandson, Brock Borchers; brother-in-law, Eddie Schmidt; sister-in-law, Ruth Borchers; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Cleo and Connie Owens.
