DeLores M. Hain was born on May 11, 1930, in David City to Charles and Anastasia (Sobotka) Fiala and passed away on September 19, 2018, in Seward at the age of 88 years, 4 months and 8 days. The family moved to Seward County in 1947. After she graduated from Ulysses High School, DeLores attended summer school at UNL in 1947. She was a a rural school teacher in Bethlehem District #50 where she taught for three years, after which she worked in the County Assessor Office in Seward.
Cy and DeLores met at a "free show" in Bee which was the Friday evening entertainment (get-together) for rural residents. They were married in Seward on February 3, 1951. The Hain's first home was on 80 acres northeast of Seward.
In 1953, Reginald (Reg) was born and his brother, Donald, (Don), was born three years later in 1956.
In January 1958, a near tragedy occurred when Cy was seriously injured in a car-truck collision. After recovering (with God's help), Cy began working in construction and carpentry instead of continuing with farming.
In 1959, a daughter, Jeanne was born on January 31st, coincidentally the same day as her brother, Reg, had been born six years before.
A sister, Julie was born in 1961. On Julie's second birthday 1963, the Hain's moved into their new house that replaced the old homestead. With Cy being a carpenter, the Hain's did most of the work themselves. They purchased the acreage in 1962.
The children attended Seward High School and continued their education at UNL in Lincoln or UNO in Omaha. Presently they are all residing in Nebraska. In the fall of 1980, Cy began his own business, "Cy's Home Improvement" with DeLores as his bookkeeper. They enjoyed living on their acreage in Seward County.
Some of DeLores' fondest memories are riding the "motor" (passenger car equipped with motor that operated on railroad tracks) from Ulysses to Lincoln to shop, and her first trip on a train. Her sister and she boarded the zephyr at the Rock Island Depot in downtown Lincoln and went to Denver, Colorado to visit relatives. They were able to attend the Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey Circus in a large tent.
