Dennis (Grandpa) Robert Koranda, Sr., was born on September 16, 1919, on a farm East of Ulysses, Nebraska to Joseph and Frances (Cink) Koranda and passed away on May 25, 2013, at his home North of Seward, Nebraska at the age of 93 years, 8 months and 9 days. His father Joseph died when he was 11 months old and later his mother married her husband's brother, Frank. So the only father he really knew was Frank. Dennis grew up on the farm East of Ulysses and attended school to the 8th grade. He started farming when he was 13 years of age. On April 14, 1942, Dennis was united in marriage to Evelyn Rose Prochaska, daughter of James and Bertha (Herms) Prochaska at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ulysses, Nebraska. This union was blessed with six children, Dennis Jr., Geraldine, Patricia, Shirley, Joan and Robert. The family first lived East of Ulysses and then purchased their own farm five miles North of Seward in 1947, and made their home there together for a little over 64 years. They celebrated their 60th anniversary on April 14, 2002, with their family and Father Loras Grell officiated at the mass for renewal of their marriage vows. Dennis was a farmer all his life raising grain, sheep, hogs, goats and cattle. Also in his younger years, he loved to play baseball and go fishing. He was a member of the Bee Fire Department, Bee Elevator, served on the Church Board of St. Wenceslaus Church in Bee, and School Board for District 12. Dennis was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Evelyn in 2007, his youngest son Robert in 2001, son-in-law Bruce Tempel in 2012, his parents Joseph and Frances Koranda, and step-father Frank Koranda, brother William Koranda, sister Sylvia Vachal, and a granddaughter. Dennis is survived by his children and spouses, Dennis Jr., and Lodeen Koranda of Seward; Geraldine and Alan W. Sleight of Milford, Patricia Koranda of Lincoln, Shirley Orth of Lincoln and Joan Tempel of Seward, daughter-in-law Charlotte Koranda of Seward; 15 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Dennis.
