Donald Lee Knoell was born on December 1, 1940 in Anselmo, NE to Harold Joseph and Merry Wanda (Leep) Knoell and passed away on January 3, 2014 in Lincoln, NE; at the age of 73 years, 1 month and 2 days. Don grew up on a ranch in Anselmo, NE; graduated from high school in 1958. He attended college in Kearney, NE. He did construction work in Broken Bow for awhile and then joined the U.S. Marine Corp. Afterhis military service he returned to Broken Bow and worked construction and in the off months worked as a press operator at a newspaper. He was a member of the Army National Guard. On March 27, 1965, Don married Carole Jones in Anselmo, NE. Don started trucking and a job took them to Oregon in 1966. They returned to Broken Bow where Don continued his trucking business.Don worked for Consolidated FreightwaysTrucking in North Platte, Lincoln, and Cincinnati, Ohio from 1977 through 1997. After his retirement from CF the couple owned and operated the Corner Bar in Garland, NE for a few years.Don loved to socialize with his many friends bothon and off the road.He was a long time member of the Broken Bow Elks Lodge and also a member Garland Legion Post #369. Don is survived by his wife Carole Knoell of Garland, NE; two daughters, Lori Castleberry of Jeffersonville, IN; and Melissa Schaefer and husband George of Garland, NE; four grandchildren, Brandon Schaefer, Kennedy Schaefer, Ryan Castleberry, and Koston Schaefer; brother Douglas Knoell of Santee, CA; sister, Dee Ann Takao of Boise ID; four brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, uncle, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. Don was proceded in death byhisparents and father-in-law and mother-in-law. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Don.
