Donald Robert Plessel was born on December 22, 1936, in Milford to Joseph and Odessa (Gehringer) Plessel and passed away on July 31, 2017, in Lincoln at the age of 80 years, 7 months and 9 days. Don grew up in Milford where he attended school and graduated with the class of 1954. Don was united in marriage to June Bean on June 2, 1957; to this union two daughters were born, Shelley and Laura. The couple divorced in 1977. On December 26, 1980, Don was united in marriage to Mary A. Timoney in York, NE; to this union a son, Michael was born.
Don began working for the City of Lincoln in the Street Department; he later worked for the State of Nebraska Department of Roads. He spent a majority of his working career with the cities of Milford and Seward with their street departments. After retiring from the City of Seward he went back to work at the recycling center in Seward until 2015. He was a hard worker but loved helping/giving to friends and family. Don loved to be outdoors working in his garden or cutting wood. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, bowling and going to coffee at Sparetime. Don loved watching Husker football and volleyball.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary in 2012; brother, Joseph "Bud" Plessel and sister, Lillian Smith.
Don is survived by his three children, Shelley Boner and husband Joe of Golden Valley, AZ; Laura Keller and husband Kirk of Lincoln, Michael Plessel and wife Kristin of Janesville, WI; five granddaughters: Breanne Diaz, Jenna Waters, Lindsey Stegmaier, Daphne Plessel and Colette Plessel; four great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Elaine Plessel. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Don.
