Obituary

Don Rolfsmeier was born on September 10, 1932, in Seward, Nebraska to Adolph Henry "Red" and Alma Louise (Nissen) Rolfsmeier and passed away on February 7, 2016, in Seward at the age of 83 years, 4 months and 28 days. Don grew up in Seward where he attended high school and graduated with the class of 1950. He was on the Basketball team that won the state tournament. Don attended the G.M. institute for two years.

On November 22, 1953, he married Janice Gillan at the United Presbyterian Church in Seward. Don was associated with his father at Rolfsmeier Motors and Janice was teaching at Star School near Goehner until their children were born. To this union there were four children: Lori Sue, Douglas Paul, Cindy Jo, and Julie Ann. The family was a part of St. John Lutheran Church. Don was a past member of the Seward Volunteer Fire Department, having received his 25 year honor. He was a past Cubmaster and volunteer for the Boy Scout Fund Drive, a past District Director of the Nebraska New Car and Truck Dealers Association, a member of the Seward Chamber of Commerce, and a former member of the Board of Directors of the Seward Country Club. Don was a founding member of the Seward County Ducks Unlimited and received the conservation service award last year. He was the first G.M. dealer of the Wheel Club (University of Nebraska). Don was an avid Husker fan. He took great pride in his yard, garden and orchard. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years Janice; son, Doug and wife Wendy Rolfsmeier of Seward; two daughters, Lori and husband Ron Wehenkel of Fremont and Julie and husband John Weller of Spokane, WA; sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Jack Aegerter and Bev and Tex Harvey; step-mother, Ruby Rolfsmeier; grandchildren, Stacy and husband Scott Walker, Travis Wehenkel, Bailey and husband Brandon Jisa, Grant Rolfsmeier, Peter Weller, Lexi Weller and Adam and wife Brittany Forney; 10 great grandchildren.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Red and Alma Rolfsmeier, father and mother-in-law, Clyde and Gertrude Gillan and a daughter, Cindy Jo Forney.
