Doris Darlene (Horan) Schmit was born February 19, 1936 in Friend, Nebraska to Lester Henry and Fern Leone (Kleinholz) Horan and passed away on August 21, 2008 at her home in Beaver Crossing, Nebraska at the age of 72 years, 6 months, 2 days. Doris was a 1953 graduate of Beaver Crossing High School and then worked at Western Electric prior to her marriage. On July 5, 1956, Doris was united in marriage to Paul Victor Schmit at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Beaver Crossing. Their marriage was blessed with six children, Rodger, Robert, Donna, Mary, Shirley and Donald. Doris, and the late Paul were the co-owners of Smitty's Cafe in Beaver Crossing then later worked at Madonna as a CNA; she was also employed with Merry Maids and was a cashier at the Goehner Convenience Store. Doris's hobbies were wood crafting, hunting, fishing, collecting hummingbirds and owls, tending to her flowers, and always sharing her peonies with special friends. Doris was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Preceding Doris in death were her husband, Paul V. Schmit in 1998, her parents, Lester and Fern Horan, and her brother, James Horan. Doris is survived by her children and their spouses and families, Rodger J. Schmit and Debra McCartney of Grand Island and son, Elliot Schmit; Robert L. Schmit of Beaver Crossing and sons, Joshua Kraft and Shane Gorey; Donna M. and Jim Waegli of Kennard and children, Shawn Waegli and Sienna Waegli; Mary D. and Dennis Coufal of Brainard and children, Travis Coufal and Stephanie Coufal; Shirley A. and Denver Beetem of St. Paul and children, Joshua Beetem and Joseph Beetem; Donald P. and Becky Schmit of Burr and children, Ashley Schmit and Mike Schmit; her sister and brother-in-law, Loretta and Don Goebel of Grass Valley, CA; special friend, Marion Zook of Beaver Crossing; many extended family members and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Doris. |
