Dorothy V. Hraban was born on February 4, 1924 in Lawrence, Nebraska to Adolph and Josephine (Kotinek) Mazour and passed away on August 11, 2017 in Seward at the age of 93 years, 6 months and 7 days. Dorothy grew up on the family farm outside of Lawrence. She attended school in Lawrence and graduated with the class of 1942. She met Rayfiel Hraban while attending a dance.
On January 22, 1946, Dorothy and Rayfiel were united in marriage at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lawrence and to this union three children were born. The couple made their home in Seward where Dorothy was a Stay at home mom until the kids were in school. She worked as a cook at the Seward Elementary School for several years before she started working as one of the cooks at Concordia University. Dorothy retired from Concordia at the age of 62. Dorothy always had a huge garden and sold her tomatoes and sauerkraut. She loved taking her tomatoes to the Seward County Fair where she would earn purple ribbons on a regular basis. Dorothy loved watching football and the Kansas City Royals. She and Rayfiel also loved their Chihuahua puppies. She was a long time member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and V.F.W. Auxiliary.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Rayfiel Hraban in 1996, daughters Betty in 1959, and Pat Zenisek (2011) and her husband Alan three sisters, Helen Drudik, Mary Drudik and Libby Nejezchleb, brother Everett Mazour.
She is survived by her son, Kenneth and wife Susan Hraban, Lincoln, four grandchildren, Matthew and wife Beth Hraban, Raleigh, NC, Jeffrey Hraban, Lincoln, NE, Joe Zenisek, Boulder, CO and Ann Zenisek, Boulder, CO; two great grandchildren, Ryon and Emilye Zenisek, brother, Jerome and wife Rita Mazour, Lawrence, NE, brother-in-law, Fred Hotovy, Seward. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of a life shared with Dorothy.
