Obituary

Dwight Millard Ehlers was born on July 25, 1947, in Ute, IA; to Loyle W. and Dorothy (Clubine) Ehlers and passed away on December 4, 2012, in Lincoln, NE; at the age of 65 years, 4 months and 9 days. Dwight was baptized on September 28, 1947 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute, IA; and was confirmed in Charter Oak, IA; in 1961. Dwight attended country school from kindergarten through the 5th grade, sixth grade through 8th grade he attended St. John's Lutheran school in Charter Oak. He graduated in 1965 from Charter Oak - Ute High School. He joined the National Guard in April of 1966. His active duty was spent at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO; and Ft. Lee, VA. After active duty he returned home in the fall of 1966. Dwight worked at IBP in Denison, IA; until becoming a USDA meat inspector in December 1969. He started meat inspection in Milwaukee, WI. On May 9, 1970, he married Patricia Wellner at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Charter Oak. After their marriage they lived in Milwaukee until January 1971. They moved to Malvern, IA when Dwight was transferred to the Swift Plant in Glenwood, IA. After the Swift Plant closed in mid 1985, Dwight was a meat inspector in Oakland and Council Bluff, IA; until he retired on January 2, 2009. Dwight and Patti moved to Friend, NE to be near their daughter and granddaughters. Dwight enjoyed flowers, gardening, reading and remodeling but loved being with his granddaughters more than anything. Dwight is survived by his wife Patti of Friend, NE; daughter, Noelle Lawver of Friend, NE; son, Jon Ehlers of Omaha, NE; three granddaughters, Maggie, Shelby and Malorie, his mother, Dorothy Ehlers of Dunlap, IA, brothers, David Ehlers of Dunlap, IA; and Donald (Jeanne) Ehlers of Hancock, IA; sister, Beverly Hartigan of La Quinta, CA; two sisters-in-law, Mary Lou (Ernie) Anderson and Judy Ondrick both of Omaha, NE; two brothers-in-law Ron Wellner of Charter Oak, IA; and Pete (Myra) Wellner of Omaha, NE; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Loyle Ehlers. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers, and memories of life shared with Dwight.
