Edith was baptized as an infant and confirmed as a young adult, both in Utica. Edith attended a country school and graduated from Utica High School in 1933. She went on to earn her teaching certificate and taught at a one room school house outside of Utica. On June 23, 1939, Edith was united in marriage to Paul N. Edith and Paul spent 3 years living in St. Augustine, Florida while Paul served in the United States Coast Guard, but aside from those years, Edith had lived in Seward, Nebraska. Edith worked with her husband as a partner managing the Seward Equitable Building and Loan and in 1956 they began the insurance agency which became known as Hafemeister, Suhr & Imig Insurance Agency. Edith was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where she was active in Ladies Aid. She was also a life member of the Seward VFW Auxiliary and the Seward Country Club.
