Edward Allen Svoboda was born on July 4, 1947 in Seward, Nebraska to Edward Vladislav and Rosella Faye (Holman) Svoboda and passed away on October 8, 2006 in Denver, Colorado at the age of 59 years, 3 months, 4 days. Ed was a 1965 graduate of Seward High School and a 1971 graduate of Wayne State College. Ed served in the U.S. Army National Guard. Ed was united in marriage to Diane Lynn Sievert on August 21, 1971 at St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church in Seward and their marriage was blessed with three children, Heidi, Shawn and Matthew. Ed served as Seward County Treasurer from 1971 through 1978. He served in the Army National Guard from June 1970 through June 1997 27 years. He served on Active Guard/Reserve status with the Army National Guard from March 1978 through June 1997; the majority of his service was as a recruiter and senior personnel sergeant. He worked as Seward County Zoning Administrator for two years. Ed most recently was a management and program analyst with the Citizenship and Immigration Service at the Nebraska Service Center in Lincoln, beginning in July 2000. Ed was a member of St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church in Seward and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Council No. 8469 Seward. Ed was a founding member of the Blue Valley Bass Club. Ed loved farming; he was an outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing and riding horses and was a member of the Utica Saddle Club. Ed was preceded in death by his mother, Rosella Svoboda. Ed is survived by his wife, Diane Svoboda, Seward; children and spouses, Heidi and Bill Covert, Utica, Shawn and Tracy Svoboda, Seward and Sgt. Matthew Svoboda, Seward currently serving in Iraq; two grandchildren, Samantha and Jordan Covert; his father and stepmother, Edward V. and Leona Svoboda, Seward; siblings and spouses, Rosemary and Jim Harnly, Seward; Robert and Sarah Svoboda, Graham, Missouri, Annette and Jim Boeche, Lincoln; mother-in-law and stepfather-in-law, Betty and Robert Hall, Lincoln; stepbrother and spouse, Randy and Cheryl Mueller, Seward, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; other relatives and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Ed. |
