Edward J. Kucera, son of Raymond H. Kucera and Dorothy M. (Nekuda) Kucera, was born in David City, Nebraska on April 5, 1949. He attended East Butler Public School and graduated from there in 1967. He attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln for one year. He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves for six years. He was united in marriage to Darlene T. Kozisek on September 18, 1971 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Brainard. Edward and Darlene had four children, Christopher, Wendy, Michael and David. Edward and Darlene were later divorced. Ed lived in Butler and Seward County throughout most of his life. He was employed as a custodian for the School District of Seward.

Ed is survived by his children; son, Christopher Kucera of Brainard; daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Mark Tvrdy of Ceresco; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Kristine Kucera of Lincoln; and son, David Kucera of Kearney. In addition, he is survived by his grandson, Scott Tvrdy, and his granddaughter, Rosalie Tvrdy of Ceresco; his mother, Dorothy Kucera of Brainard; sister, Sharon and Don Niemann of Columbus; and brother Gary and Mary Kay Kucera of Brainard. Also surviving are 3 nephews; 3 nieces; former wife, Darlene T. Kucera of Brainard; special friend, Darlene Ferguson of Seward; other family members and many friends. Ed loved his family and friends.

His hobbies were playing cards, cooking, and gardening. He liked to attend garage sales and was a bargain hunter. His specialty was making beef jerky and homemade wine. He also liked to kid around by telling jokes and enjoyed conversations with laughter.
