Elsa Marjorie Munk was born November 3, 1917 at Omaha, NE to John Alfred and Anna (Oberg) Nelson and passed away on July 22, 2013 in Seward, NE. She was baptized on September 9, 1918, and confirmed march 20, 1932 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Omaha. She graduated from North High School in Omaha, with the class of 1935. During World War II, she sketched portraits of Servicemen at the U.S.O. and Service Clubs. She was an office employee at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha from August 1936 until May 1947. On June 7, 1947, Elsa was united in marriage to Lester Nelson Munk at Trinity Lutheran Church in Omaha. They made their home on a farm north of Staplehurst, NE until Lester retired from farming in 1975 and they moved to Seward. Lester passed away on June 11, 1997 a few days after their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Elsa retired as office manager at Memorial Hospital, Seward where she had been employed from September 1953 until December 1984. Her dream of working in a hospital was complete in her 41 years of service. She loved people and her work. Another dream was fulfilled when Elsa, at age 81, traveled to Sweden, her parents homeland, and met her cousins for the first time after corresponding with them for many years. Elsa was active in church work at Trinity Lutheran Church-Omaha, Our Saviors Lutheran- Staplehurst, and Faith Lutheran Church-Seward. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Munk, her parents, her brother and sister-in-law Edward and Gertrude Nelson, nephews, John and Raymond Nelson and niece Esther Ann Nelson and lifelong friend Katherine Orton. She is survived by niece Amy (Ronald) Miller of Gretna, NE; nephews George and Paul (Evelyn) Nelson of Omaha. Great-nephews Eric and Andrew Miller and Adam Nelson, great niece Anna Mayberry, cousin Chris Mumm and other relatives and a host of friends.
