Haynes
July 15, 1928 – August 9, 2019
Elwin E. Haynes was born on July 15, 1928, in Page, Nebraska to Roy and Winnie (Wood) Haynes and passed away on August 9, 2019 at the age of 91 years and 25 days. Elwin grew up in Page and graduated from Page High School with the Class of 1946.
Elwin farmed with his dad until he was drafted on April 5, 1951 into the United States Army. He served in the 1st Calvary Division in Korea. He was honorably discharged on January 9, 1953. On August 7, 1955, Elwin married Marilyn Frank at the Friedens United Church of Christ in Goehner, Nebraska and to this union four children were born.
Elwin drove the city bus in Lincoln and worked at American Stores for 23 years until it closed. He then went on to work for the Milford Public Schools as a custodian and bus driver until his retirement. He later worked part time at Memorial Hospital in Seward. He loved his large garden and the fish fries in Bee. He enjoyed watching all kinds of sports, riding his bicycle up to the feedlot and walking around the school track. He also had a sweet tooth and loved desserts. Elwin had a wiener dog, Pretzel, that he adored. He would take him to McDonalds and feed him hamburgers. Elwin enjoyed traveling with Marilyn on bus trips to Branson, Missouri. He also loved his western shows and movies. He was known for his famous snack called kix and cheese which was passed down to family and friends. Elwin was a longtime member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Milford.
Elwin was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marilyn (2010); grandson, Brandon; brother, Melvin Haynes.
Survivors cherishing his memory include his children, Randy and Ellen Haynes, San Antonio, Texas, Scott and Susan Haynes, Lincoln, Cindy and Chad Lawrenz, Lincoln, Kathy and Dan Stukenholtz, Auburn, Nebraska; two sisters, Mildred McCoy, Durango, Colorado, Melissa Nealy, Lincoln, NE; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Elwin.
