Eugene Charles "Gene" Brott was born on November 5, 1933, in North Judson, Indiana to Victor Henry William and Frieda Louise (Hankey) Brott and passed away on April 5, 2022, in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 88 years and 5 months.
Gene was baptized on November 19, 1933, at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Judson, IN. The family lived in various places while Gene was growing up. He attended Immanuel Lutheran Church School in Baltimore, MD and St. Stephen's Lutheran Church School in Hickory, NC. It was there that Gene was confirmed into the Lutheran faith on May 25, 1947. The family later moved to Rochester, NY, where Gene attended Benjamin Franklin High School and later graduated from Edwin Denby High School in Detroit, MI, on June 22, 1951. After high school, Gene attended Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, IL and graduated with his bachelor's degree on June 10, 1955. On July 8, 1956, he was united in marriage to Norma Aldine Scheiwe at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Woodworth, IL, and to this union three children were born.
Gene began teaching at Lutheran High School South in St. Louis, MO, he later attended Washington University, St. Louis, MO, where he received his master's degree in education on June 14, 1962. In 1967, the family moved to Winfield, KS, where he taught at St. John's College. He obtained his doctorate degree in education on May 25, 1969, from Oklahoma State University. The family moved in 1982, to Seward where he taught at Concordia University until his retirement in 1999. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where he was active in music ministry. He enjoyed serving the community through the Kiwanis Club of Seward, where he helped with Meals on Wheels, the Backpack Program, the summer pool parties, singing with the KiTones and calling Bingo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister, Louise.
Those cherishing his memory include his wife, Norma Brott; three children, Elizabeth "Lisa" Ruth and husband, Ronald Aring, Seward, Thomas Paul Brott, Cypress, CA, Ingrid Michelle and husband, Mark Minchow, Seward; four grandchildren, Jessica and husband, Jason Pickel, Tyler and wife, Mischaela Aring, Hayden Minchow and Dawson Minchow; five great-grandchildren, Jasten Pickel, Jaegen Pickel, Jetten Pickel, Tucker Aring and Ada Aring; sister and brother-in-law, Eunice and Clifford Dietrich. We are grateful for the many blessings God has given us through Gene's life and faith. We cherish every moment we've been given.
