Eva Ialene (Mahoney) Einspahr was born in Kit Carson County, Colorado on January 23, 1926 to John Cecil Mahoney and Mary Loueta (Bonsall) Mahoney. She attended the Flagler, Colorado Public Schools. Eva was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Flagler on November 29, 1942 and confirmed as a member of this congregation on May 23, 1943. She graduated from Flagler High School on May 4, 1944. She enrolled in St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Denver, Colorado in the fall of 1944. She graduated as a Registered Nurse on October 9, 1947. Eva married Glenn Curtis Einspahr at Emmaus Lutheran Church, Denver, Colorado on July 8, 1947. Glenn taught at Grace Lutheran School in Kansas City, Kansas 1947-1949 and Eva was employed at Providence Hospital in Kansas City. The couple then moved to Denver where Glenn earned a Master's degree at the University of Denver. Eva was employed as a nurse at St. Luke's Hospital during this time. In 1950 they moved to Seward, Nebraska where Glenn was employed by Concordia Teachers College. The family became members of St. John Lutheran Church in Seward. Eva served as part-time Concordia College nurse. Her duties included caring for ill students who would be housed in the college clinic. At the same time she was rearing their family which eventually grew to number four children - Glennda, Owen, Jack, and Mary. After taking some time out to be a full-time mother, Eva was employed as a staff nurse at Seward Memorial Hospital. She resumed being full-time wife and mother when the family moved to Denver while Glenn completed requirements for his doctor's degree at the University of Denver in 1960-61. When the family returned to Seward, Eva was asked to be the Director of Nursing Service at Seward Memorial Hospital. She was employed in this position for 21 and a half years. During those years she was a member of the Nebraska Nurses Association, the Concordia Guild and the Tower Guild. For a decade she managed finding the bakers in the guilds who would fill orders for birthday cakes, etc., as requested by students families. When Eva retired in 1987, she continued as an active member of the guilds named above and joined the St. John's Ladies Aid. She did volunteer work in these organizations and served her family in innumerable ways. She also enjoyed being a member of a St. John prayer group for caring ministries and a St. John Christ Care group. Eva passed away in Lincoln, NE on April 23, 2010, at the age of 84 years and 3 months. Eva is preceded in death by her parents, six sisters and one brother. She is survived by her husband, Glenn Einspahr; a daughter, Glennda, who is married to Mark Joyce, Alamosa, CO; a son, Owen, who is married to Margaret Einspahr, Fredericksburg, VA; a son, Jack, who is married to Kathryn Einspahr, Denver, CO and a daughter, Mary McCuistion, Peoria, IL; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Frances Smith, Hemet, CA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bruce and Lillian Einspahr, Lakewood, CO, William and Lorna Einspahr, Wheatridge, CO; nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
