Evangeline May "Susie" Alley was born on January 16, 1922, to John and Winifred (Dobson) Craig in Beaver Crossing and passed away on January 7, 2018 in Yankton, SD. The family moved to Seward in the early 1930's where Evangeline attended school graduating in 1940.
On May 11, 1941, she was united in marriage to Richard Alley in Benton, Arkansas, to this union three children were born Pat, Sandra and Larry. Evangeline loved to crochet and made an afghan for every grandchild, great grandchild and great-great grandchild. She enjoyed playing the game bones (dice game). In her younger years she enjoyed bowling where she played on several leagues and she also loved ice skating. After Richard passed away she and her two daughters would take at least one trip a year and it had to be over 500 miles away and at least one train ride. She loved her family and spending time with friends. Evangeline also had many spiritual brothers and sisters through her baptism into the Jehovah's Witness congregation.
Evangeline was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard in Nov. 1993; son, Larry in Jan. 2017; four brothers ,Gordon, Delbert, Richard and David Craig; grandson, Loren Levi Alley; infant great-great grandson, Gabriel Leader.
She is survived by her two daughters, Pat and husband Leon Wakeley, Crofton, Sandra and husband William Hladky, Schuyler; daughter-in-law, Suzie Alley, Seward; sisters-in-law, Doris June Craig and Verneal Burkey; eight grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; five step great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Evangeline.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2018, at Zabka Funeral Home, Seward; with Brother Don Peek officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Seward Cemetery, Seward. Memorials may be made to the Alley family for future designations.
