Evelyn Rose (Prochaska) Koranda was born on March 16, 1921 on a farm west of Ulysses, Nebraska to James and Bertha (Herms) Prochaska and passed away on January 10, 2007 in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 85 years, 9 months, 25 days. Evelyn attended country school at Pleasant Lawn School near Ulysses. She had her First Communion and was confirmed at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ulysses . On April 14, 1942, Evelyn was united in marriage to Dennis Robert Koranda, Sr., also at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. This union was blessed with six children, Dennis, Jr., Geraldine, Patricia, Shirley, Joan and Robert. The family first lived east of Ulysses and then purchased their own farm five miles north of Seward in 1947 and have made their home there for 60 years. Evelyn and Dennis celebrated their 6oth Wedding Anniversary in 2002 with their family and Father Loras Grell officiated at the mass for renewal of their marriage vows. Evelyn was a homemaker and loved to cook and bake for family and friends. She also raised and dressed chickens, ducks, geese, tame rabbits and turkeys and with the help of their daughter, Geraldine they always had a large vegetable garden and lovely flowers. Evelyn also made patchwork and baby quilts for her family, as well as pillows and hot pads. Evelyn was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and Altar Society in Bee. She served as an officer in the Altar Society and worked for many years with the duck and chicken dinners of the church. Preceding Evelyn in death were her parents, James and Bertha Prochaska; a granddaughter, her sister, Kristina Sedlak; her brothers, Raymond, Leonard and Albin Prochaska and her son, Robert Koranda in 2001. Evelyn is survived by her husband, Dennis R. Koranda, Sr. of Seward; her children and spouses, Dennis, Jr. and Lodeen Koranda of Seward, Geraldine and Alan Sleight of Milford, Patricia Koranda of Lincoln, Shirley Orth of Lincoln, Joan and Bruce Tempel of Seward; daughter-in-law, Charlotte Koranda of Seward; 15 grandchildren, Alan M. Sleight, Rodney Koranda, Keith Tempel, Jason Tempel, Bryan Koranda, Kevin Koranda, William Sleight, James Sl;eight, Brent Tempel, Andrew Koranda, Sheri Rech, Jill Fliege, Donna Zastera, Lisa Downing, and Lori Fitzgerald; 25 great-grandchildren, Jess Tempel, Jacob Tempel, Matthew Koranda, Kyle Koranda, Devin Koranda, Jared Koranda, Cody Koranda, Casey Koranda, Creighton Koranda, Dylan Koranda, Shantel Koranda, Samantha Rech, John Paul Rech, Nathan Rech, Emilee Rech, Alyssa Sleight, Austin Sleight, Benjamin Downing, Hanna Downing, Nora Fliege, Adeline Fliege, Austin Wolken, Allisa Fitzgerald, Harley Fitzgerald, Triston Zastera; other relatives and a host of friends.
