Obituary

Florence Henrietta (Ricenbaw) Amos was born April 21, 1912 on a farm near Milford, Nebraska to Norman A. and Alvina Amelia (Suellwold) Ricenbaw and passed away on December 7, 2014 in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 102 years, 7 months, 16 days. Florence grew up on a farm south of Beaver Crossing with her parents, her sisters Viola and Berdene and her brothers Arthur and Jim. Florence attended grade school in a one-room school and then attended Beaver Crossing High School where she studied Normal Training. She graduated in 1929 and the following fall, Florence began teaching in a one-room school near Pleasant Dale; later she moved to the Cordova Elementary School where she taught along-side her sister, Viola. Florence was united in marriage to Grover Cleveland Amos on June 16, 1937 in the garden at the Ricenbaw family farm. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Judy, Jim and Linda. Florence took time out from her teaching career to marry and raise their family, returned to teaching full-time in the Beaver Crossing Elementary School and then joined the Centennial School District when it was formed. Florence continued to teach until she was 67 years old and her career encompassed 32 years. Florence enjoyed bridge; she and her friends started the WHO Bridge Club. Florence was also a great traveler. Her many excursions included Germany, several European countries and most of the states. Florence was a longtime member of the Beaver Crossing United Methodist Church and UMW. Other memberships included Flowing Well Grange, American Legion Auxiliary, "N" Homemakers Extension Club, Beaver Crossing Chamber of Commerce and Cemetery Board. Florence was an avid Nebraska Husker fan and supporter. Florence loved her home in Beaver Crossing and remained in her home for many years following Grover's death on April 8, 1974. Florence moved to Seward in 2003. Florence is preceded in death by her husband, Grover Amos; her parents Norman and Alvina Ricenbaw; her siblings and their spouses, Viola and Ervin Grossmann, Arthur and Norma Ricenbaw, Jim and Dorothy Ricenbaw, Elmer Heckman, infant granddaughter Jill Elizabeth Amos, and infant great granddaughter Amanda Marie Peer. Florence is survived by her children and their spouses, Judy and Jim Peer of Bloomington, MN, Jim and Sandy Amos of Tecumseh, Linda and Steve Eberspacher of Seward; sister, Berdene Heckman, Kearney; nine grandchildren, Jeff and Juli Peer, Jerry and Teri Peer, Dave and Alex Amos, Mark Amos, Erin Amos, Christal and Andy Fehlhafer, Michael and Melissa Eberspacher, Matt and Destidy Eberspacher, Chad Eberspacher; 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters; nine nieces and nephews and their families; many former students and a host of friends.
