Freddie Zitek was born on December 13, 1933 in Ulysses, Nebraska to Edward Fred and Anna Marie (Krska) Zitek and passed away on March 6, 2009, in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 75 years, 2 months, 24 days. Fritz grew up with his two brothers, Gene and Marvin. He was a 1951 graduate of Dwight Assumption High School where he enjoyed playing basketball. Fritz served his country in the U.S. Navy for two years. On May 21, 1960, Fritz was united in marriage to Lucille Louise "Lucy" Hein at St. Mary's Catholic Church in David City, Nebraska; their marriage was blessed with 8 children. Fritz farmed for 10 years in Ulysses and Staplehurst for 15 years. He was employed at Goodyear in Lincoln for 27 1/2 years, retiring at age 62. Fritz was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Seward and a former member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ulysses and a member of Catholic Workmen. Fritz was preceded in death by his parents, Edward F. and Anna M. Zitek; his son, Dennis Zitek in 1979; and a granddaughter, Hannah Zitek. Fritz is survived by his wife, Lucille "Lucy" Zitek, of Staplehurst; his children and their spouses, Dale and Melani Zitek of Dwight, Laurie and Ernie Kohout of Seward, Lynn and Roger Engelbart of Malcolm, Dean and Deb Zitek of Louisville, Lisa and Tom Tupper of Lincoln, Lenore and Dan Rezac of Omaha, DeWayne Zitek of Lincoln; 21 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; brothers and sister-in-law, Gene Zitek of Lincoln, Marvin and Mary Lee Zitek of Ulysses; nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
