Gabriela (Makes) Hotovy was born April 20, 1904 in Moravia to Wenceslaus and Mary (Plisek) Makes and passed away on October 4, 2005 in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 101 years, 5 months, 15 days. Gabriela came to the United States in 1907 with her mother, three sisters and one brother. They moved to Dwight, Nebraska and then when she was around 11 years old Gabriela moved to North Dakota where she completed a 2-year teaching course and taught school. In 1927, Gabriela was united in marriage to Fred Hotovy in Lincoln, Nebraska. To this union 4 children were born. The family farmed in the Ulysses area and in 1974 Gabriela and Fred moved to Schuyler. After the passing of her husband, Fred and her son, Stanley, Gabriela moved to Seward to make her home. Gabriela was a former member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ulysses where she was active in the Altar Society. Gabriela was currently a member of St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church in Seward. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wenceslaus and Mary Makes; her husband, Fred Hotovy; her son, Stanley Hotovy; one brother, three sisters, one halfsister and one halfbrother. Gabriela is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Irene Hotovy, Seward, her son, Rev. Father Dennis Hotovy, Wymore, her daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Joseph Kobza, Lampe, Missouri; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; one halfsister, Frances Zimmerman, Moorhead, Minnesota; other relatives and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Gabriela. |
