Genevieve Louise Mapel Sandusky was born May 31, 1920 in Utica, Nebraska to Lester and Dora (Ehlers) Mapel and passed away on May 24, 2006 in Milford, Nebraska at the age of 85 years, 11 months, 24 days. Genevieves mother died at an early age and she was raised by her grandmother and aunt. She was a city girl but loved country living and was pleased to be taught to drive the tractor. Genevieve was a 1938 graduate of Seward High School. On September 21, 1940, Genevieve was united in marriage to William Emmett Sandusky in Seward. To this marriage three children were born, Tom, Kathleen and Suzanne. Genevieve was a member of St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church and Benedictine Oblate; she was a member of VFW Auxiliary Post No. 4755 in Seward, a volunteer for Blue Valley Community Action Food Pantry and an instructor with RCIA. Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, William Sandusky in 1997. She is survived by her son, Tom Sandusky of Seward; her daughters and son-in-law, Kathleen Sandusky Hamilton of Austin, Texas and Suzanne and Tim Emal of Seward; three grandchildren Michael and Gayle Sandusky, Michelle and Jeff Gibbens and Liesel Sommerfeld; six great-grandchildren, William Sandusky, J. Ross Gibbens, Jordan Gibbens, Jack Gibbens, Michael Gibbens, Marshall Gibbens; niece and nephew; son-in-law, Ed Sommerfeld, Seward and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Genevieve. |
