George Louis Brust was born October 18, 1916 near Lincoln, Kansas to Albert Harold and Minerva (Davis) Brust and passed away on December 2, 2006 in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 90 years, 1 month, 15 days. George was the youngest of 5 children. When he was quite young, his parents were divorced and his mother became very ill and George moved to Seward to live with his sister and brother-in-law, Beatrice and Onas Hughes. He attended school in Hiawatha, Kansas and was a 1935 graduate of Seward High School. George worked for Seward City Mills, Texaco and Conoco Service Stations and for a short time owned a service station in Milford. He was an employee of Hughes Brothers for 38 years; he retired as Personnel Director. On April 25, 1937, George married his high school sweetheart, Idamarie Langner and they were privileged to celebrate their 69th Wedding Anniversary. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Beverly and Pamela. George was a 50+ year member of First Presbyterian Church, having served as an elder, a trustee and church treasurer. Other memberships included 60-year member of Oliver Lodge No. 38 A.F. & A.M., where he served as Worshipful Master and was awarded the Jordan Medal; Past Patron of Seward Chapter O.E.S., Seward Country Club and Royal Neighbors of America. He was a former member of Seward Chamber of Commerce and Kiwanis. George was a Big Red fan and enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, bowling, gardening and telling dog stories. George was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Minerva Brust; sisters and brothers-in-law, Beatrice and Onas Hughes, Esther and Mertell Hyde and Lucy and Mike Lange; brother, Harold Brust and grandson, Scott Johnson. George is survived by his wife, Idamarie Brust, Seward; daughters and son-in-law, Beverly and Ken Johnson, Frisco, Texas and Pamela Trank, Iowa City, Iowa; four grandchildren, Craig Johnson, Steven Johnson, Heather Haigh, Jessica Pierce; 7 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Virginia Brust, San Diego, CA; brother-in-law, Ron Langner, Osage Beach, MO; other relatives and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with George. |
