George Jerome Kalcik of Seward, formerly of Crete was born on July 3, 1944, in Lincoln, NE to Frank and Rose (Sukovaty) Kalcik and passed away on March 22, 2015, in Seward at the age of 70 years, 8 months and 19 days. He grew up on the family farm between Crete and Wilber. George attended country school until the 8th grade then attended Crete High School and graduated from Wilber High School with the class of 1962. He enlisted into the U.S. Army in 1964. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to run the family farm. He moved to Colorado in September 1970, where he worked at Monfort in the Greeley area. He moved back to Crete in February 1973. George worked at the Crete Mill for several months. He then began working at Peterson (American Tool) in the fall of 1973. George retired in 2003 after 30 years of service. George was united in marriage to Lisa Ventre on December 10, 1994 in Crete. George and Lisa ran the family business until his passing. George enjoyed hunting in his younger years. He loved to read and would read four or five books at the same time. George and Lisa moved to Seward in 2013, to be closer to their children and grandchildren. George was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Ann Johns and brothers Dennis and Francis Kalcik. George is survived by his wife Lisa Kalcik, and five children; Todd Kalcik and wife Rosalyn of Weston, CO; Troy Kalcik and wife Tammy of Tulsa, OK; Dan Ventre and wife Tonya of Seward, Melisa Ventre of Lincoln, Melanie Ventre of Seward, and one brother Donald Kalcik and wife Sharon of Lincoln. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. with the family present from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Zabka Funeral Home, Seward, NE, A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2015, at Zabka Funeral Home with Chaplain Anna Dick - Burkey officiating. Burial will follow with full military honors at Seward Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Kalcik family for future designations.
