George Herbert Landon was born January 12, 1922 in Seward, Nebraska to George Steaven and Selma Ida (Forke) Landon and passed away on December 29, 2008 at Seward , Nebraska at the age of 86 years, 11 months, 17 days. George attended school in Seward and was a 1940 graduate of Seward High School. George served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 96th Infantry Division Special Forces. He was decorated with two Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars and a Silver Star. Upon his discharge, George returned to Seward and was united in marriage to Melvina Wilhelmina Gertrude Abrahams on August 9, 1946 in Marysville, Kansas. Their union was blessed with three children, James, Patricia, and Steaven . George worked at Hughes Brothers for many years and for 26 years with Concordia University, retiring in 1983 from Buildings and Grounds. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, the Purple Heart Association, helped organize and was a life member of Seward V.F.W. Post No. 4755, a life member of American Legion No. 33, a life member of Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of Cooties--volunteering at the Veterans Hospital in Lincoln. George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Selma Landon and his wife, Melvina. George is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Kerry Landon of Cowiche, Washington, Steave and Beth Landon of St. Louis, Missouri and his daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Merv Munster of Forest Grove, Oregon; grandchildren Alycia Landon, Trevor Landon, Jennifer and Jim Bockelman, and Jonathan Munster; other relatives and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers, and memories of life shared with George. |
