Gerald Herbert Mueller was born July 9, 1930 in Staplehurst, Nebraska, the son of Herbert Christian and Amanda Louise (Fritz) Mueller and passed away on September 12, 2014 in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 84 years, 2 months, 3 days. Gerald was baptized on August 3, 1930 at Our Redeemer Lutheran ChurchMarysville and was confirmed on April 20, 1944. He was a 1948 graduate of Seward High School. Following graduation Jerry was a parts clerk at Herpolsheimers in Seward. Jerry served as Engineman 2nd Class in the U.S. Navy from March 19, 1951 to March 14, 1955; serving on the U.S.S. Atlas. On June 7, 1953, Gerald was united in marriage to Dolores Arlene Dill, in Lincoln, Nebraska. They began their lives together in San Diego, California where Jerry was stationed with the U.S. Navy. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Linda, Dan, Julie and Darin. In 1955, the couple and their infant daughter, Linda moved to Seward where Jerry went into the auto repair business with his father. Upon the retirement of his father, Jerry changed the business name to "Mueller Small Engine Repair". Jerry and Dolores operated the business together and retired in 1994. Jerry was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church, Seward. He was a dedicated member of the Seward Volunteer Fire Department, joining January 4, 1956. He served as Fire Chief for eight years and was the Captain of the Rescue Squad for many years. Other memberships included: Seward Area Chamber of Commerce, VFW Post #4755, First Aid Instructor for the Red Cross, officer with the Seward Jaycees, and Seward Cemetery Board. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Amanda Mueller; his wife, Dolores Mueller in 2003; brother, Vernon Mueller; sister and brother-in-law, Berdine and William "Bill" Kruse; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Carl , Sr. and Vera Dill. Jerry is survived by his children and their spouses, Linda and Greg Hotovy, Seward, Dan and Diane Mueller, Julie and Mike Davison, Darin and Marg Mueller, all of Lincoln; nine grandchildren, Jeremy and Lindsay Hotovy, Stacy and D.R. Herrold, Stephanie and Tom Morse, Mike Mueller, Travis Mueller, Trenton Mueller, Trevor Mueller, Chris Esser and Nick Esser; four great-grandchildren, Brayton and Lander Hotovy, Rex Herrold, William Morse. Additional survivors include, sister-in-law, Georgia Mueller, Seward; nieces, nephews, cousins; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Kay and Carlene Rising and Carl, Jr. and Pam Dill, all of Lincoln and a host of friends.
