Gerald Devern LaVelle was born August 30, 1952 in York, Nebraska to William Albert and Darlene Marie (Light) LaVelle and passed away on November 3, 2008 in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the age of 56 years, 2 months, 3 days. Jerry was baptized and confirmed at Swede Plain Church in Polk, Nebraska. He attended school in Polk where he was active in sports and graduated from Polk High School in 1971. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from January 24, 1972 to June 3, 1973. Later he was a counselor in alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs. Jerry had been living in Albuquerque, New Mexico for the past several years but remained a faithful Nebraska Football fan. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Bill and Darlene LaVelle; his brother, Bobby LaVelle and his sister, Connie Holsteen. Jerry is survived by his son, Josh LaVelle and his daughter, Courtney LaVelle; his brother and sister-in-law, Todd and Mindy LaVelle of Seward and their children, Patrick, Whitney and Broc. Additional survivors include his brother-in-law, Ron Holsteen, Parsons, KS; niece, Shana Holsteen, Topeka, KS; nephew and wife, Chad and Marcie Holsteen, Manhattan, KS and their children, Jordan, Mason and Ty; aunts and uncles; cousins and friends, Terri Shepherd and Keaton of Albuquerque, NM. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Jerry. |
